SUMMARY:Trans Day of Remembrance Vigil UTOPIA Seattle
DESCRIPTION:The Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) was founded in 1998 by Gwendolyn Ann Smith—a transgender graphic designer\, columnist\, and activist—to memorialize the murder of Rita Hester in Allston\, Massachusetts. What initially began as a web-based project has since burgeoned into an international day of action; in 2014\, TDORs were observed in over 200 cities around the world.\nThe Transgender Day of Remembrance occurs annually on November 20th to honor those whose lives have been lost to anti-trans violence. The overarching goal is to bring attention to the continued violence endured by the transgender community with the hope that together we can end such violence and intolerance. It is a sad day that allows us to stand up collectively in opposition to anti-transgender hatred and prejudice.\nWe live in times more sensitive than ever to hatred based violence\, yet even now\, the deaths of those based on anti-transgender hatred or prejudice are largely ignored. Over the last decade\, more than one person per month has died due to transgender-based hate or prejudice\, regardless of any other factors in their lives.\nPlease join us on the evening of November 20th at 7:00 PM (PST) for our annual Transgender Day of Remembrance service in memorializing the memory of our fallen trans siblings.\nDue to the ongoing pandemic this event will be held virtually so please share with your friends and family. Look forward to members of our community as they share their talents and testimonies throughout our program. Let us all join in heart and spirit. We hope to see you all there.\nView the Facebook Event here for more information and updates:\nhttps://fb.me/e/30UXIcitZ

SUMMARY:Trans Grief & Death Planning Workshop @ Trans Peer Support Group
DESCRIPTION:Join us Wednesday from 7-9pm PST for our weekly Trans Peer Support Group! In regards to community safety\, we have moved our meeting to virtual (accessible via computer or phone) until further notice. This week is Fifth Wednesday Workshop! \nTo RSVP for Support Group\, visit https://ingersoll.typeform.com/to/BTPB6t \nLearn more about this week’s workshop below: \nTrans Grief & Death Planning Workshop: Kalisto Nanen\, affectionately known as Listo Nanen by his friends and family is a student funeral director and undertaker\, breath worker\, death guide\, plant worker\, and performance artist just to name a few of his multi-talents. He is the owner and founder of Syzygy Passings a Death Guide business that works in advance care directives\, grief support\, and arts. In the era of a modern pandemic as well as a world under oppression the thought of death is picking at our minds and I am here to guide you through planning death so that we as transgender community and families of transgender individuals can rest assured that our bodies will be remembered the way we want them to be remembered. In the hour break out group we will work over a listening section where we talk about where we are at in our lives and discuss our fears\, we will go into a 5-10 minute session where we will work on writing our plans and then share them. We will also work through knowing what the current Washington State Advance Care Directive looks like\, and discuss rights at the end of life. \nIf you are able to donate to our Trans Peer Support Group\, please consider making a small donation at https://bit.ly/psgdonate
