Peer Support Group

Peer support

Our trans led peer support group has been meeting every week no matter the weather or holidays for over 40 years. Our peer support groups are the foundation of all of Ingersoll's programming, and also provides a great place for trans, genderqueer, questioning, friends, family and community allies to come together for information and mutual support. Currently, we meet every Wednesday from 7pm - 9pm, at the offices of Seattle Counseling Services.

What can I expect at the Support Group Meeting?

Groups are facilitated by trained peer-facilitators from our own communities. Discussions are free ranging, confidential and focused on the interests and concerns of the people who attend the group. This is also a good place to come to get information and referrals for other services you may need. There is no cost for this group, but donations are encouraged, to help supplement program expenses. Groups are always drop-in, there is no need to RSVP. Timeliness is appreciated.

Each week, our support group starts with a check in, followed by community announcements, and then a group discussion. Depending on the night, we will offer several different group discussion formats. Here's a breakdown of what they are:

  • 1st Wednesday of the month: Identity based breakout groups for trans feminine people, trans masculine people, SOFFAs (significant others, friends, family, and allies), All Gender Expressions (AGE). We also host a QLaw Clinic (wherein attendees can meet one-on-one with a legal advisor to discuss civil law issues) and STEEP (Seattle Transgender Economic Empowerment Project) group.
  • 2nd Wednesday of the month: We meet as a single, large group.
  • 3rd Wednesday of the month: We break out into small groups based on topics chosen by attendees.
  • 4th Wednesday of the month: We meet as a single, large group.
  • 5th Wednesday of the month (if there is one!): We offer various workshops as well as a discussion group to provide support. Check the calendar to see what workshops will be offered next! If you are interested in offering a workshop please email us at info@ingersollgendercenter.org for more information.
